Organized by the Office of Communications (OoC) at IISc, this internship is designed to guide budding writers in turning complex scientific ideas into captivating stories for the public. Whether you’re a student, an emerging writer, or simply curious about science communication, this internship could be your next big step.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a science writing intern, you’ll immerse yourself in a vibrant ecosystem where research meets storytelling. During the internship, you will:- Write 5–6 original science stories for IISc’s platforms such as newsletters, websites, and press releases
- Simplify technical research into engaging content for non-expert readers
- Conduct interviews with scientists to uncover the human and intellectual story behind the science
- Learn the fundamentals of science journalism: headline writing, fact-checking, structuring narratives, and more
- Have your work featured on popular IISc platforms like Kernel and Connect
- Receive guidance and feedback from experienced science writers and editors to sharpen your storytelling skills
- Build a professional writing portfolio with real-world content
Who Can Apply?
This opportunity is open to anyone with a passion for science and writing. You don’t need a specific academic degree — what matters most is your ability to communicate clearly and your enthusiasm for science.
Preference will be given to:
- Early-career writers with little or no experience in science communication
- Students (UG/PG/PhD) who are interested in writing about scientific topics
- Individuals who have shared science content publicly, whether via blogs, social media, or other formats
Internship Details- Mode: Remote (with optional in-person collaboration for Bangalore-based candidates)
- Stipend: ₹15,000 (paid after successful completion)
- Duration: Based on completing 5–6 original pieces
